Nautiluss - αlpha EP

If there is something that limits my ability to enjoy a more diverse group of music, it is my inability to detach the artist's character from their music. Tiga is a good example. His online persona is to me quite obnoxious. Being a Montrealer, I wanted so badly to embrace him fully, but I always seem to keep his music at arm's length. I own his debut album, Sexor, and I have listened to some of his side project ZZT, but I do not go seeking music from his label, Turbo. I am working on resolving this issue haha!

Turbo's latest offering comes from Toronto's Nautiluss. Graham Bertie used to be part of the group Thunderheist which produced the hit Jerk It. He also has the alias Grahmzilla. The Alpha EP has been receiving a lot of praise, so I decided to check it out.

While composing this blog entry, I came upon this article in Spin http://www.spin.com/blogs/ex-thunderheist-producer-stalks-away-booty-bubblegum-past?utm_source=spintwitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=spintwitter I didn't know Nautiluss had grown up in Montreal (wut wut!). I agree with his assessment of the Montreal music scene, don't agree with his statement of how the state of pop is so bad. You can immediate extrapolate that to mean he's talking about the Pitbull/FloRida/Guetta/Avicii/SHM sound. I never understand why these criticizers down delve into the roots of these House producers. I'm not a huge fan of Pitbull and FloRida's latest (I preferred them as hip hop artists) but I just turn it off when I hear their tracks on the radio. Simple.
Despite all the elitism, check out this EP and see for yourself if it deserves all the hype.
